This book project was created by Libertarian Party candidate for Vice President of the United States, Mike ter Maat. I served as his campaign manager during the nomination process, to build his reputation and team to the point of viability. Out of 29 candidates seeking the presidential nomination, Chase Oliver secured the candidacy for President and ter Maat was voted in as his VP in a multi-round process that included over 800 delegates.
A Gold New Deal is a collection of contributed chapters on a variety of liberty-leaning topics. Although I don’t agree with everything in the book, or the totality of the Oliver/ter Maat platform, this was a fun project. My chapter was on what I consider to be a non-partisan topic: allergies. Essentially, urban planners and local governments have participated in what came to be known as botanical sexism. Where female trees bear fruit that eventually falls to the ground and requires clean-up, male trees shed pollen and the only mess they create is inside our lungs. So, urban planners have a propensity to plant mostly male trees, to save on the clean-up requirements. This has had a disastrous effect on allergy sufferers who face an over-abundance of pollen every year.
